Dr. Barbara Ward received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Duke University. After partnering in the creation of a successful and still-growing small business, as well as raising a family, she continued her studies and became a Certified Physician’s Assistant. While working for the Department of Surgery at St. Francis Hospital, she decided to progress further in her medical studies and subsequently received her M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993. She then completed a Diagnostic Radiology residency and fellowship in Women’s Imaging at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital. After a year in private practice at The Washington Hospital, Dr. Ward returned to West Penn Hospital where, in 2001, she became Director of the Breast Diagnostic Imaging Center and later served as Director of the Radiology Residency Program.
Dr. Ward has lectured at national and international conferences and has served as President of the Pittsburgh Roentgen Society, Chairman of the Mammography Voucher Program, and Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Greater Pittsburgh Unit of the American Cancer Society. She became a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology in 1997. She retired in Dec. 2015 after ten years with the practice.
